Wet Fish is an adult animated TV show that revolves around the stories of a group of humanized fish-characters living in a big city that surrealistically emerges inside a waterbed of a Californian cheap motel.
After holding onto this core idea for several years, in 2020 I decided to produce an animated teaser and a Bible deck myself, with the goal of pitching this wacky idea to major networks. The process took more than a year and countless hours, but with the support of agents from 3ARTS in LA and Casarotto and Ramsey in London, I was able to personally pitch this concept to heads of development at Netflix (UK), Disney, FX, and Adult Swim.
I probably wouldn't be here writing this bit if the show had been picked up :),
but nevertheless, this experience provided me with valuable insight into the industry and allowed me to gain a better understanding of my skills as an art director.
From writing to sketching, from creating animatics to directing voice actors, from building characters with their own stories, costumes, and quirks to constructing a fictional world with its own rules, style, and visual identity, Wet Fish has been a wonderful creative exercise which I still hope one day will turn into a wet reality.
